Two passes, one list

Ten items. Pass one: rate each out of ten on importance, the way most planning apps ask you to. Pass two: pairwise comparison, no ties allowed, until an order falls out.

The rating pass took under two minutes and felt easy. The comparison pass took closer to nine minutes and felt like work. The easy one produced a tie for first place between four items.

Where the two disagreed

The item rated highest on the scale finished fourth once it had to win actual head-to-head comparisons. It was important in the abstract and consistently lost to anything with a deadline attached.

That gap between abstract importance and revealed preference is the whole reason this tool exists. A rating captures how you feel about a task. A comparison captures what you would actually do.
